Maḥajjah Institute
All praise belongs to Allah, Rabb of the entire universe. Peace and salutations be upon the final Nabī, his wives, family and Ṣaḥābah. It is a great favour of Allah upon us for blessing us with Imān and creating us from the ummah of Nabī ﷺ.
“All praise is for Allah, Who has guided us to this. We would never have been rightly guided had Allah not guided us.”
The doctrinal history of Islam has not been without challenges. Attempts to part with orthodoxy and institutionalise innovation arose in the earliest period of Islam and continue in various forms up to the present day.
The rise and spread of heterodoxy found fertile grounds in the vacuums of ignorance to which some societies occasionally tend to fall prey. Given such circumstances, the distortion of history and creed, combined with the fabrication of alternative narratives and meta-narratives, went a long way to entrench deviation.
While many heterodoxies withered and disappeared with the passage of time, some managed to cling to existence and reinvigorate themselves whenever opportunity presented itself. In response thereto arose a scholarly tradition dedicated to the defence and vindication of truth. Maḥajjah Institute represents a continuation of that tradition.
Maḥajjah Institute was founded by Mufti Taha Karaan and Mufti Azhar Seedat and is dedicated to research, translation, publication, and training on the phenomenon of Shīʿism. The institute conducts research and translates and publishes literature regarding Shīʿism for public consumption, benefit, and protection. It also provides expert training to graduate ʿulamāʾ on Shīʿism to further safeguard Muslim communities across South Africa.
The Maḥajjah Institute is the culmination of a near two-decade long effort by Mufti Taha dedicated to the defence and vindication of truth.
In Mufti Azhar, Mufti Taha found a kindred spirit with the same driving desire to defend the truth. As such, he was rightfully handpicked by Mufti Taha to spearhead the Maḥajjah Institute and continue the defence of truth. Mufti Azhar continues to lead the institute in the defence of truth from the frontlines with a team of dedicated researchers and translators supporting him.
